BILLI BRASS QUINTET
I Billi Brass Quintet nascono nel 2012 dall’incontro di cinque giovani musicisti che ad oggi vantano collaborazioni con importanti enti sinfonici italiani. Il repertorio del quintetto spazia dalla musica antica alla contemporanea, passando per il jazz, le colonne sonore del grande cinema e le composizioni originali per quintetto di ottoni. I Billi Brass Quintet, oltre ad aver commissionato al compositore inglese Mark Hamlyn le musiche per il cortometraggio De Brug (Joris Ivens, 1928) e all’americano David Short quelle per il celeberrimo Le Voyage dans la Lune (Georges Méliès, 1902), si sono fatti interpreti di numerose composizioni contemporanee.
L’ensemble, di base a Perugia, è stato protagonista in numerosi Festival in Italia e all’estero fra cui: Prix Italia 2018 (Capri, concerto trasmesso da Rai Radio Classica), Atlante Sonoro (Roma), Giardini La Mortella (Ischia, Napoli), VIII e X Edizione di Eolie in Classico (Messina), Festival dei due Mondi (Spoleto), Corciano Festival, Festival Internazionale Giovani Concertisti di Castel Rigone (Perugia), Festival Ecosuoni (Terracina), XVI International Puppet Festival The Golden Dolphin (Varna, Bulgaria), Festival Balade Cévenole avec Maurice André (Saint-André-Capcèze, Francia), Festival delle Nazioni (Perugia).
Fra i riconoscimenti ottenuti spicca il primo posto all’8° Concorso Internazionale Giovani Musicisti Città di Treviso, sezione “Musica Contemporanea” (2016).
Degne di nota la prima esecuzione in Italia di Preludio y Danza del Alba, composto da Luis Serrano Alarcon, avvenuta al Corciano Festival 2017 e la selezione per la fase finale dell’edizione 2019 del Concorso Internazionale Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition presso il Royal Northern College of Music di Manchester.

Billi Brass is a brass quintet created by five young musicians in 2012. To date, it boasts collaborations with important symphonic institutions.
The repertoire of the quintet ranges from classical to jazz music, as well as folk and contemporary compositions, soundtracks from famous films and original brass quintet pieces.
The group, besides having commissioned to the English composer Mark Hamlyn the music for the Dutch short film “De Brug” (Joris Ivens, 1928) and to the American one David Short the piece for the famous film Le Voyage dans la Lune (Georges Méliès, 1902), has interpreted several contemporary works.
The ensemble, which is based in Perugia, has taken part to a broad range of projects and festivals, both in Italy and abroad. Its activity includes the International competition Prix Italia 2018 (Capri, the live concert was broadcasted by Rai Radio Classica), the Atlante Sonoro Festival (Rome), Giardini La Mortella (Ischia, Naples), the VII and X edition of Eolie in Classico (Messina), the Spoleto Festival and the Corciano Festival as well as the participation to the Castel Rigone International Festival for Young Performers (Perugia), the Ecosuoni Festival (Terracina), the XVI International Puppet Festival The Golden Dolphin (Varna, Bulgaria), the Festival Balade Cévenole avec Maurice André (Saint-André-Capcèze, France) and the Festival delle Nazioni (Perugia).
In April 2016 the Billi Brass Quintet won the first place at the 8th International Music competition for young musicians in Treviso .
It is noteworthy that, in August 2017, Billi Brass, accompanied by the Corciano Festival Orchestra, had the occasion to perfom for the very first time the contemporary composition “Preludio y Danza del Alma” by Luis Serrano Alarcon.
The group also participated to the selection for the final round of the Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in July 2019.
